At PlayStation LineUp Japan 2018, SEGA announced the new project from Yakuza creator Toshihiro Nagoshi. Judge Eyes, seemingly taking place in the Yakuza universe, has you playing as an all-new protagonist who is a lawyer in the Japanese underworld. Of course, he’s also stupidly handsome and more than capable in a fight.
Details are sparse right now, but Trusted Reviews has compiled everything you need to know about Judge Eyes including all the latest news, gameplay, trailers and more.
What is Judge Eyes?
Developed by Ryu No Gotoku studio, the same minds behind Yakuza, Judge Eyes is a new action-adventure drama. Taking place in Kamurocho, Japan, you play as a man who finds himself solving cases, dealing with criminals and cracking an unfolding mystery.
We now have an English trailer, which reveals that Judge Eyes has the same amount of flair, style, and violence as the beloved Yakuza series. It’s a mixture of Phoenix Wright and Yakuza, we’re already sold.

Judge Eyes release date – when is it coming out?
SEGA confirmed during the reveal that Judge Eyes will be launching in Japan during December 2018, with a demo now available to download now from the PlayStation Store. Whether it’s a PS4 exclusive or not remains unclear.
A western release has already been confirmed for 2019, so we’re bound to hear more details soon.
Judge Eyes Gameplay – how does it play?
The debut trailer and screenshots provide a bit of information on how Judge Eyes will play, and we’ll be sure to include a dedicated preview once we’ve had hands-on with the demo. It seems to bear a striking resemblance with Yakuza in terms of combat and exploration.
Judge Eyes will once again take place in the Red Light District of Kamurocho, which fans of Yakuza will certainly recognise. Described as a “legal action thriller” players will be tackling a series of unfolding conspiracies and crimes throughout the town. We imagine it will have more than a few innovations up its sleeve for the formula, too.
Playing as a lawyer called Takayuki Yagami, you’ll be expected to solve puzzles, fight bad guys and take in the night life of downtown Tokyo. You can also expect a detailed story with lavish cutscenes and plenty of melodrama, which certainly isn’t a departure from the studio’s previous efforts.
