iPods In Close Shave

Yup, attachments for the iPod know no limit. Now men can buzz off those beards and women smooth those legs with PodGear's latest bizarre add-on.

One of the best things about owning an iPod is the almost limitless amount of ingenious accessories churned out by all and sundry. Well, today we see a truly exceptional piece of lateral thinking from UK company PodGear who is determined to smarten up the image of hairier iPod owners.

Jointly announced today are the PodShave for the iPod and PodShaveLady for the iPod mini, two neat electric razor attachments that clip directly onto the top of your favourite music player. What’s more, both take their power from the iPod itself, making them super portable.

PodGear also claims the technology behind the blades is so advanced it can be used on any skin type. We spoke to them about this ingenious development.

“I want to be clear from the start,” said Tom Dudderidge, PodGear’s big cheese, “It’s not that we have anything against hairy people as such, it’s just they are scruffier than normal people. It’s not a good look when you are carrying around something as stylish as an iPod. I mean… could you see Robin Cook wearing white headphones?”

When quizzed, Dudderidge said he expects the PodShave and PodShaveLady to be big sellers amongst the country’s student population. “Obviously, they would be ideal for the homeless as well because of their portability,” he continued, “but I’m not sure they can afford iPods. Probably best they just get a standard razor.”

Asked whether he believed the PodLadyShave would sell as well as the PodShave, Dudderidge was extremely positive. “I expect it to sell more!” he proclaimed. “We’re predicting particularly high numbers on this one right across Europe.” He paused, “On second thoughts, maybe not Germany.”

At TR, we must admit we love the concept behind the new PodShave and PodShaveLady, it is one of the best examples of convergence yet. It also confirms something we have long suspected: that while the iPod is very much a man’s product, the iPod mini is safely nestled away in a pink cottage, painting its nails, sipping sweet white wine and watching chick flicks in the heart of Girl Land.

Available immediately, the PodShave and PodShaveLady both retail for £19.99 including VAT (that’s equality for you) and can be purchased online at iPodWorld.

”’Update 04/04/2005:”’

Yup, THIS is your deceitful story ladies and gents! Sorry to those of you who had designs on the PodShave or PodShaveLady but they’re lies incarnate. Thanks also to PodGear for being great sports and letting us put (incrediblly non-politically correct) words in the mouth of their Managing Director (cheers Tom!). Still, makes a change from journalists just putting words into peoples’ mouths without asking…
