iPhone X suffering from crackling speakers at high volume, customers say
Apple can’t seem to catch a break: a number of iPhone X owners have taken to Reddit to complain that their handset’s earpiece speaker is crackling at high volume, rendering sound inaudible.
It’s unclear whether the Cupertino company is aware – or has pinpointed the cause – of the issue, but it’s certainly looking like it’s software-related, as most customers continued to report it after being issued a replacement unit.
The iPhone X isn’t the only iPhone to have suffered from a frustrating bug, though.
Last month, Apple issued an update for the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus to patch a near-identical glitch that resulted in a crackling sound occurring during telephone calls – and we still don’t know what caused the problem.

More recently, however, the firm was forced to retreat to the drawing board with its tail between its legs, while it figured out a solution for a nasty bug that prevented iOS 11 users from typing ‘I’ as a word, without autocorrect taking over.
We’ve reached out to Apple for comment and will update this post if/when we hear back. In the meantime, we’d recommend using the EarPods, which came bundled with your iPhone X, when placing a call if the earpiece audio isn’t clear enough.
