iPhone X owners are taking to Reddit and Apple’s support forums with reports that the camera lenses on their phones are breaking far too easily for comfort.
Some are even reporting that these cracks are occurring despite them consistently using phone cases with their handsets.
The iPhone X’s camera is raised from the back of the phone, much like other iPhones, but Apple uses a sapphire construction that should protect it from damage.
It’s hard to know exactly why these cracks are occurring in the first place, or even whether the problem, which was first spotted by 9to5Mac, is as widespread as users on these forums are complaining that they are.
Theories without answers
A common theory doing the rounds is that changes in temperature have something to do with the cracks, but users seem split on whether low temperatures or high temperatures are to blame.
What we do know, however, is that Apple has so far not recognised this as a defect with the device, with users reporting that the company is refusing to replace the device under warranty.
We’ll be keeping an eye on the issue and will provide more updates as the situation develops.
