Well it was a sweet sweet 72 hour break, but now here’s more iPhone news…
The device, which goes on sale in just four days (thankfully), has been confirmed at the last minute to have some pretty major new functionality: Microsoft Office and Adobe PDF file support.
Yes, wearers of suits globally prick your ears up at the thought of re-justifying an iPhone purchase to your boss because now the device can officially be classed as a smart phone. Apple hasn’t gone into detail about the hows or whys but it certainly wasn’t part of the original plan given Microsoft’s early public protestations over this very issue.
On top of this bomb shell Apple has also posted an everything-you-ever-wanted-to-know-even-down-to-the-settings-menu monstrous 25 minute iPhone video guide on its website and from it we learn such interesting scraps as:
*Locking the phone requires a similar finger sliding movement to unlocking it (but it is performed at the top of the screen)
*iPhone headphones are equipped with call and volume control
*IMAP and POP email support is featured
*Traffic Information and turn by turn directions are featured in the integrated Google Maps sotware
*Voicemail can be rewound in the same manner as an audio file
*Ringtones don’t appear to support audio files.
So mostly pluses all round then. Apart from the fact that it made me write ”another” darn iPhone article – something I now absolutely refuse to do again before Friday… …fingers crossed.
