Apple’s iPhone 8 is getting a long-awaited new feature – report

Apple could finally introduce wireless charging with the iPhone 8.

The iPhone 8 is going to be the very first Apple smartphone to feature wireless charging, according to a new report. Sun Changxu, an analyst at ESM-China, claims that the new feature was revealed by Apple’s mobile supply chain.

Changxu also notes that the feature won’t be available on the iPhone 7, and that the iPhone 7S name will be skipped over for iPhone 8 next year. That’s a rumour we’ve already heard consistently in recent weeks, based on the suggestion that the 2017 iPhone will bring significant upgrades, compared to supposed minor improvements for this year’s iPhone.

Apple is expected to launch the iPhone 8 in September next year. We’ve heard that there will be sweeping changes to the handset’s design, although details are still thin at this early stage. By contrast, the soon-to-launch iPhone 7 has been leaked much more heavily, and is tipped to feature:

  • A dual-lens camera
  • Removed headphone jack
  • New ‘Deep Blue’ colour option
  • Reduced antenna banding

As with any rumour or analyst comment, it’s hard to verify the legitimacy of the information. As such, take this latest report with due caution. The iPhone 8 is still a long way off, and the design of next year’s iPhone is certainly still subject to change.
