iPhone 7 to miss one heavily rumoured feature – report
Contrary to previous leaks, Apple’s next flagship iPhone won’t have a Smart Connector, a new report claims.
Earlier this year, it was rumoured that the iPhone 7 would feature the Apple’s Smart Connector. That was based on a leaked image that depicted a never-before-seen iPhone with three dots near the base – just like a Smart Connector.

But a new report suggests that Apple has “shelved” plans for a Smart Connector on the iPhone 7. That’s according to Japanese Apple-centric news site Mac Otakara (via SlashGear), which claims to have insider knowledge of the matter.
To date, the Smart Connector has only appeared on the iPad Pro. It’s used to let the tablet connect to Apple’s custom-built Smart Keyboard accessory. If Apple’s next iPhone did feature a Smart Connector, it would likely serve a similar (if not identical) function.

Apple is expected to launch the iPhone 7 this September at a dedicated launch event. The handset is tipped to arrive in two variants – 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch – just like previous iterations of the iPhone. However, despite extensive rumours, Apple has kept a tight lid on the matter of upcoming smartphones. As such, it’s worth taking this report – and any other reports prior to official launch – with due caution.
