iPhone 7 rumour – Leaked image reveals new camera design?

Considering the volume of iPhone 7 leaks and rumours that have arrived in recent weeks, it wouldn’t be right to start this one without a new ‘leak’.

This week’s offering comes courtesy of French site nowherelese.fr which posted a photo that appeared to show the back plate of an iPhone 7, complete with a large camera cutout.

Several reports have suggested Apple’s next flagship will arrive with a larger CMOS sensor, and this could be our first glimpse of just how much bigger the lens will be.

The hope among many is that the increased size will allow for larger pixels, which should improve low-light performance in much the same way as Samsung’s Galaxy S7‘s larger pixels did.

Aside from the camera cutout, the design shown in the shot is in line with other reports and leaked images showing the antenna bands running along the top and bottom edge of the case.

Elsewhere, Engadget‘s report on the leak includes claims from sources at Chinese repair shop Rock Fix that the iPhone 7 will retain the headphone jack on the 4.7-inch version of the handset.

That’s in contrast to an overwhelming amount of reports suggesting that Apple is preparing to do away with the outdated connection on the iPhone 7.

One explanation, according to those same Rock Fix sources, could be that Apple is preparing to release two versions of the 4.7-inch model – one with the headphone jack and one without.

The larger iPhone 7 Plus however, is rumoured to feature a dual camera setup and could be where Apple is planning to remove the 3.5mm jack.

Aside from the above image, nowhereelse.fr also published the below shot, appearing to show the 5.5-inch iPhone 7 Plus, with the rumoured dual camera setup.

The cutout on the left side of the case suggests we could see a new port or sensor on the side too.

All of this is still speculation at this point as there’s no way to confirm the images as genuine and Apple is remaining characteristically quiet on details ahead of the phone’s official launch, which is expected to take place in September.
