iPhone 7 release date: Report tips launch for w/c September 12

The next-generation iPhone will launch the week commencing September 12, according to noted industry leak artist Evan Blass (aka @evleaks).
Posting the rumours to Twitter in the early hours of Saturday morning, Blass said the 2016 model will be announced sometime during the third week of September.

Last year, Apple launched the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus on September 9 and traditionally stays around that time, so Blass isn’t exactly going out on a limb on this one.

If the timeline holds true, we can expect the new handsets to go on sale at the end of the following week, perhaps with a release date of September 24.
Another interesting and consistent feature of Blass’ tweets over the last few weeks has been the term “iPhone 2016.”
With the firm seemingly moving towards a three year upgrade cycle, it’s certainly plausible that Apple will break its naming conventions too.
But if not iPhone 7, what will it be called? iPhone 6ss? iPhone 6se? iPhone 6s-ier?
