iPhone 7 Plus leaks in video, and there’s one huge change
This could be our best look yet at the upcoming iPhone 7. On the other hand…
YouTube channel Unbox Therapy, known for its prolific mobile leaks, has posted what it describes as a “hands on with prototype” with the iPhone 7 Plus. In actual fact, it’s just a mock-up that was developed and sent to the channel by a third-party, but Unbox Therapy’s host says: “I have what I believe is the first accurate mock-up of the upcoming iPhone 7 Plus.”
Unfortunately, that means it could very well be completely wrong. But on the bright side, the phone’s design represents all of the most credible leaked information we’ve seen about the iPhone 7 Plus so far. That means that if you want an idea of what the iPhone 7 Plus will look like, it’s probably this:
The most blatant change is the colour of the phone, which Unbox Therapy’s host describes as a “blueish, purplish tone”.
Other obvious tweaks include reduced prominency of the antenna banding on the back of the phone, a new Smart Connector on the bottom (Smart Keyboard, anyone?), and absolutely no headphone jack at all – Apple is reportedly plotting to ditch the 3.5mm audio port entirely.
The other main modification is the introduction of a dual-lens camera, which is probably the most heavily rumoured iPhone 7 Plus feature to date. The leakers seem to agree on the general design of the new camera module, which appears to now sit slightly lower than the camera on the iPhone 6S. And in this mock-up, the camera protrudes significantly, which means the phone rocks more when the corner is tapped.
In any case, we’re still weeks away from the expected September launch of the iPhone 7, so take this leak – and other subsequent leaks – with due caution. We won’t know anything for certain until Apple’s official unveiling takes place.
