The next iPhone, widely expected to be called the iPhone 6S, may come with a front-facing flash for low light selfies.
With the first iOS 9 developer beta released and currently being pored over, a few hints have emerged as to the possible direction of future Apple hardware.
Developer Hamza Sood has discovered that the next iPhone may well feature a drastically improved front-facing camera – or FaceTime camera, as Apple would probably prefer you to call it.
The code he has discovered appears to show that iOS 9 supports a flash for said selfie cam. It also supports 1080p video capture for the this secondary snapper, which would represent a considerable upgrade after being stuck at 720p for several successive iPhone models.
Other supported features for this component in iOS 9 will be 240 fps 720p video recording, which would mean smooth slow mo footage of you and your buddies, and panoramic selfies.
It’s about time the iPhone range’s front-facing camera got a bit of love. We’ve already heard rumours that the rear camera will receive a boost for the iPhone 6S.

According to a recent rumour, the next iPhone will pack a 12-megapixel image sensor (it’s been 8-megapixel since the iPhone 4S). Perhaps more excitingly, rumour has it that the phone will also feature Sony’s RGBW technology.
This piece of technology adds an extra white sub-pixel to the standard red, green, blue set-up in order to give users brighter photos, without draining power from the battery. Basically, it means better low light performance.
Hopefully we’ll also get the OIS system that made its debut on the larger iPhone 6 Plus.
