The iPhone 6S is officially coming on September 9

It’s finally official – the Apple iPhone 6S launch event now has a confirmed date.

The Cupertino-based tech giant is going to announce the next iPhone on Wednesday, September 9.

The event is set to kick off at 10am in San Francisco local time, which is 6pm in London.

That’s according to an invitation sent out to press today:

Interestingly, if you ask Siri the question quoted on the invitation, you get the following response:

Any idea? Us neither.

It’s widely expected that Apple will show off two handsets at the event – the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus.

Both handsets have been rumoured to land with the A9 chip, a Force Touch display, and – possibly – a USB-C port.

The event is being held at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco.

That’s a brand new location for Apple, and is by far the biggest venue the company has ever used for an iPhone launch – it has a maximum seating capacity of 7,000.

For contrast, the Yerba Buena Center and the Flint Center – both previous Apple venues – seat 1,470 and 2,400 people respectively.

We’re expecting Apple to kick off pre-orders on September 11 – not the best date, perhaps – with an eventual on-sale date of September 18. Apple has yet to confirm these details, so take them with a pinch of salt.
