iPhone 6S battery confirmed smaller than iPhone 6

One of the mysteries of the iPhone 6S launch has been solved, with the apparently official confirmation that it uses a smaller battery than the iPhone 6.
Apple didn’t answer every question concerning the iPhone 6S at last night’s launch. For example, where’s the camera OIS?
The company also failed to provide specifics on the iPhone 6S’s battery. Many would have assumed that this component would be at least equal to the iPhone 6, and possibly even bigger given the chunkier chassis, but other rumours have pointed to a smaller battery for the new phone.
Now we know that the latter rumours were true. The company has released a promotional video of the phone’s 3D Touch feature, but it also gives a us a peek at the iPhone 6S battery.
As PhoneArena discovered, the battery has “1,715mAh” very clearly stamped on it. The iPhone 6, lest you forget, is powered by a 1,810mAh battery.

Clearly, that new 3D Touch system requires a fair amount of space, and
Apple has had to make a bit of a compromise with the battery as a
result.
Of course, Apple is claiming that the iPhone 6S will enjoy similar battery performance to the iPhone 6, thanks to a more efficient A9 processor and the more frugal iOS 9.
