iPhone 6 tipped to launch in one size only

The iPhone 6 may only launch in one screen size, according to a recent analyst report.

Ever since rumours of the iPhone 6 began to flow forth, it’s been claimed that Apple was working on two possible super-sized screen options for its next major smartphone revamp.

Those sizes were thought to be 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch. Now, according to supply chain checks made by UBS analyst Steve Milunovich, the larger model may have been dropped from Apple’s initial iPhone 6 launch plans.

As relayed by Barrons, Milunovich reports that Apple seems certain to launch a 4.7-inch iPhone 6 in August or September (some had previously predicted June). As for the 5.5-inch model, that could still be on the cards, but Milunovich says that it “may not launch at the same time” as the 4.7-inch device.

The analyst also claims to have established that the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 will adhere to the same screen resolution as the 4.7-inch model. This would obviously make for a less sharp picture, but on the plus side it would help app developers considerably.

Especially as the resolution will presumably be a significant bump up from the current 4-inch iPhone Retina display, which will pose its own problems for app developers.

One thing that the analyst seems certain of, regardless of size options, is the iPhone 6’s success. “iPhone 6 units are expected to exceed 5S sales year-over-year when it ships,” he says.

Milunovich also believes that the iPhone 6 may be priced higher than the current iPhone 5S, no doubt thanks to its all-new super-sized components.
