The iPhone 6 could have a protruding rear camera when it is eventually launched later this year.
Alleged schematics for the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 have emerged online courtesy of Taiwanese sources, showing that the nest Apple smartphone might feature a bulbous rear camera module.
According to the schematics the smaller iPhone 6 will be just 7mm thick and have a rear camera that rises up an additional 0.77mm beyond this.
Although these schematics suggest the camera will protrude quite significantly, we’re expecting it to be more akin to the subtler iPod Touch.
There have been repeated rumours that the iPhone 6 will strongly resemble the latest iPod Touch model. In fact, reports that the iPhone 6 will have the same protruding rear camera as the iPod Touch date back to March.
Those rumours were also supported by leaked photos of the iPhone 6 backplate.
Overall the design of the iPhone 6 is also expected to mimic that of the iPod Touch, with soft curved edges and a much thinner body than that offered by the 7.6mm iPhone 5S and 8.97mm iPhone 5C.
Currently, the iPod Touch measures up at 6.1mm thick and the general consensus is that the iPhone 6 profile will be of similar ilk.
Some suggested that Apple might be able to avoid such a protruding lens for the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 by restricting optical image stabilisation to the larger 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Air.
Aside from a protruding camera module, the iPhone 6 is expected to feature an enhanced 1704 x 960p resolution for the 4.7-inch model. The current iPhone 5S has a 1136 x 640p resolution with an image density of 326ppi.
It is believed that Apple will launch the iPhone 6 duo running iOS 8 on September 9 at a special event, with the devices available to purchase on September 19. Of course, none of that has been officially confirmed as yet.
