iPhone 5S screen repair service comes to European Apple Stores

Apple now appears to be offering an iPhone 5S screen repair service in its European stores.

The company started offering such a screen repair service for its current flagship phone last week, but only within its US and Canada Apple Stores.

A report emerged at the time suggesting that an equivalent European service wouldn’t be far behind, and so it has proved.

European Apple websites such as Germany’s Apfelpage are reporting that the iPhone 5S screen repair service is now available within local Apple Stores.

It used to be that if you strolled into an Apple Store with any iPhone 5S screen damage, they’d have to ship it off for repair. Now the company can do this on site and within the hour.

As the aforementioned website notes, this also makes for a difference in cost. AppleCare customers used to have to pay €249 for this off-site repair. Now the local repair option costs just €149.

Of course, Apple has launched this local screen repair method just a month ahead of the expected launch of the iPhone 5S’s replacement. It’s believed that the iPhone 6 will be unveiled at a special event on September 9.

It’s also widely expected that the iPhone 6 will sport a larger 4.7-inch display, with a 5.5-inch model also said to be in the works. While that may make it sound more vulnerable than the iPhone 5S, there’s every chance the display will be made of a tougher sapphire glass material.

Hopefully there’ll be much less call for in-store iPhone screen repairs with Apple’s next flagship phone.
