iPhone 5S release date confirmed as September 20 alongside iPhone 5C

The iPhone 5S release date has been officially confirmed, with Apple’s next-generation smartphone to hit retailers on September 20, the same day as the iPhone 5C release date.

Officially unveiled during this evening’s Apple launch event from the company’s headquarters in Cupertino, California, both the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C will be made available to consumers next Friday, just 10 days after launch.

“These iPhones are packed with remarkable tech, but we’ve done it in a way that makes it matter to people, making things easier. We don’t just pack in feature after feature,” Apple CEO Tim Cook said in unveiling both the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C.

iPhone 5S Release Date
With the iPhone 5S release date set for September 20, Apple has yet to confirm iPhone 5S pre-orders plans but has stated that the handset will be available to purchase from September 20.

With the iPhone 5S set to be made available in three storage options, 16GB, 32GB and 64GB, Apple has offered differing devices for all user requirements. UK iPhone 5S prices have also been confirmed with the three storage capacities to set you back £549, £629 and £709 respectively.

Despite retaining the form factor found on last year’s iPhone 5, the new iPhone 5S specs sheet makes for very different reading, with a raft of new features and functions added.

Running the WWDC unveiled iOS 7 operating system, the iPhone 5S specs sheet sees a new, speedier A7 processor make the cut alongside a redeveloped 8-megapixel camera and the same 4-inch Retina display found on the 5. It also incorporates an integrated fingerprint scanner.

iPhone 5C Release Date
While the iPhone 5C release date has also been set for September 20, the two devices have very little in common. In a bid to bring the iPhone brand and the iOS ecosystem to a wider audience, the iPhone 5C marks Apple’s first move into slightly cheaper handsets. iPhone 5C pre-orders will kick off on September 13.

Set to compete with the mid-range likes of the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini and HTC One Mini, the iPhone 5C is a plastic clad dual-core smartphone that is set to be made available in a raft of vibrantly hued colours including red, white, blue, green and yellow. It hosts the same spec as the iPhone 5 with a 4-inch Retina display lining up alongside an 8-megapixel camera and, again, iOS 7.

With the iPhone 5C only available in 16GB and 32GB storage capacities, the two itterations of the phone will cost £469 and £549 respectively.
