iPhone 5 Screen Specs Revealed – Or Made Up

A video detailing the minutiae of the iPhone 5’s screen size has been posted online. As expected, the phone looks a tiddly bit larger than the iPhone 4S, but also has a significantly bigger screen.

Etrade got hold of what appear to be screen front components from both the iPhone 5 and iPhone 4S, and took an electronic measuring device to them to discern the exact differences. The width of the screens is exact the same, at 51.6mm, but the iPhone 5 display is significantly longer, boosting the screen’s diagonal measurement from 3.61in up to 4.065in.

The phone itself is longer too, but the top and bottom bezel areas have been snipped-down to minimise the size increase. All this is in-line with the majority of recent iPhone 5 screen rumours, but Etrade says that the screen is also more scratch-resistant. Where attacking the iPhone 4S screen with a set of keys left it with some small marks, the iPhone 5 came out unscathed. But will it still shatter into a thousand pieces when you drop it on the pavement while out on the town? The jury’s out.

One other significant-ish change is that the user-facing camera sensor has been moved from next to the receiver to on top of it. The near-invisible light sensor next to it seeems to have gotten smaller too, suggesting the tech inside may have been enhanced.
