iPhone 5 prices slashed by Carphone Warehouse

Carphone Warehouse looks set to spark a UK price war over the iPhone 5.

The retailer has just reduced its deals for the Apple smartphone, and claims that it now offers the cheapest prices in the country. The 16GB iPhone 5 is now available from £39 a month on O2 through Carphone Warehouse, with no upfront cost for the handset. The two-year deal also includes 900 minutes of calls and unlimited texts, but just 100MB of data.

That’s the cheapest the retailer offers, but there are other affordable iPhone 5 deals too. A couple of examples are a two-year Vodafone contract at £37 per month includes unlimited calls and texts and 1GB of data (there’s a £47 fee upfront though) while there’s a two-year Orange deal for £46 per month, unlimited texts and calls and 3GB of data, with no upfront fee.

Carphone Warehouse is also offering trade-ins on old iPhones of up to £250.

Carphone Warehouse chief commercial officer Graham Stapleton said that the new deals offer something for all the retailer’s “different types of customer”, and that the Orange and Vodafone deals are designed to reflect a predicted rise in data use among mobile users.
