The iPhone 5 is already responsible for an impressive three per cent of mobile internet traffic in the US, according to a recent report. This takes it past its main rival, the Samsung Galaxy S3, which is responsible for just two per cent. This is all the more impressive when you consider that the iPhone 5 has only been on the market for around a month, while the Samsung Galaxy S3 was launched in the US almost four months ago.
It’s also worth mentioning the numerous reports of manufacturing issues that have apparently held the iPhone 5 back from meeting its full sales potential.
Despite these factors, those American customers who have received their iPhone 5 handsets have been using the internet voraciously, it seems.
When combined with all the other iOS devices currently in use, ad network Chitika claims that 46 per cent of all mobile web traffic comes from Apple hardware. Samsung, meanwhile, may be in second position, but is only good for 17 per cent of overall.
That’s good for the Android platform though – all other Android devices combined are responsible for 37 per cent of mobile internet traffic.
In order to get these results, Chitika “conducted a user agent analysis on millions of mobile ad impressions, spanning a 7-day time frame from October 3rd through October 9th.”
Chitikia concludes that “this comparison emphasizes iPhone users still being the most active – and hence marketable – users of the mobile Web.”
