iPhone 5 is Final Steve Jobs Product

Think the magic may leave Apple’s product line now that Steve Jobs is no longer with us? His mark will still be clear in the iPhone 5, according to analyst reports.

Steve Jobs was involved in the iPhone 5 “from concept to final design” according to Rodman & Renshaw analyst Ashok Kumar. This may sound odd given we’ve only just waved a hello to the new iPhone 4S, but we don’t doubt there’s a prototype iPhone 5 in a Cupertino closet somewhere just waiting for 2012 to come around.

Kumar says that the iPhone 5 will feature a completely new design, with a larger screen and a slimmer body no larger than the current model. This suggests a near bezel-free design. While it may have seemed as though Jobs battled through ill health just long enough to see the iPhone 4S launch, his influence will continue Apple’s product line – for generations to come, most likely.

Huge demand is virtually a given for any iPhone, but Kumar predicts that the iPhone 5 will become a “cult classic”. A Steve Jobs signature model – as if all the iPhones and iPod haven’t been that very thing all along. CNET News writes that Jobs was actually not particularly involved in the iPhone 4S because of his work on the upcoming model, knowing that his “time was limited.”

The iPhone 5 rumour mill has already begun production, ready to fill our eyes and ears with made up – and just mostly made up – factoids about the iPhone 5, but the notion of the next-gen model as Jobs’s last stand is enough to make us anticipate something very special indeed. As well as feeling a pang of sadness that he won’t be there to introduce it to the world, in his inimitable fashion.
