A picture purporting to be of the new iPhone 5’s internal motherboard has been released onto the web. It reveals a number of interesting new snippets on the make-up of Apple’s forthcoming smartphone refresh.
We’ve already seen a number of images claiming to be of the iPhone 5’s external redesign. These seem to show off a new metallic back and a thinner, longer chassis. These were apparently just the shell of the new device, though, offering no hints at what lay inside.
That seems to have been answered – at least partially – by a posting at Chinese website WeiPhone. Over on its forums, a user has claimed that these pictures are of the new iPhone’s motherboard, which will connect all of its internal components.
Unfortunately it doesn’t answer one of the biggest questions we have for the new phone – what processor it’ll be running on. It does, however, offer a couple of interesting snippets of information.
The new iPhone will indeed use a new nano-SIM component, it seems, judging by the smaller connector in the picture.
Interestingly, the provision of an extra battery connector pin also suggests that the iPhone 5 will pack a higher capacity battery. This runs contrary to a recent report that stated the capacity would remain pretty much the same as the iPhone 4S’s.
The final point worthy of mention is that the new motherboard features more antenna connections, hinting that reports of a 4G iPhone 5 are accurate. Not that this will do UK users much good, of course.
The new iPhone is set to launch on September 12 by many people’s approximations.
