This iPad X concept has a display well worth getting excited about
Apple’s next iPad could look a bit like a stretched-out iPhone X, if renders by Dutch designer Martin Hajek are anything to go by.
Hajek’s designs show an all-display iPad with the screen notch that split opinions of the iPhone X’s OLED display.
Dubbed the ‘iPad X’ Hajek envisions the next iPad as having the same size screen and dimensions of the 12.9-inch iPad Pro only with an edge-to-edge display and no home button.
This all looks very impressive, especially if the display used the same OLED panel tech the iPhone X sports.
But as a Reddit user pointed out in a thread discussing the mocked-up designs, there’s nowhere to grip the tablet without having your fingers all over the edges of the screen.
“Good luck holding the thing though. Tablets shouldn’t have edge-to-edge screens in my opinion,” the commenter said.
However, another Reddit user reckons Apple will find a way to solve this issue, after all its current iPads can detect the difference between an actual touchscreen interaction and fingers just resting on the screen’s edges.
“Obviously Apple is gonna design it where holding it won’t be an issue. I can imagine there being a virtual border, just like how the home indicator has a space of it’s in on the bottom, I can imagine the sides having invisible borders on the home screen,” said redditor ‘quitethewaysaway’.
Of course this is all speculation and debating over a device that doesn’t actually exist, so we’ll take these observations with a pinch of salt.
However, it’s been a while since Apple gave its iPad lineup a proper redesign, so Cupertino could do worse than take a small peek at Hajek’s designs for inspiration.
