iPad mini could be next for the ‘Pro’ treatment – report

Reports on Monday have claimed Apple plans to release three iPad Pro models in 2017.

Macotakara says the largely-forgotten 7.9-inch iPad mini, last updated in September 2015, will get the Pro suffix along with all the associated benefits.

That means the Smart Connector for attaching a keyboard and four-speaker audio. The report also says Apple will include a 12-megapixel camera with a TrueTone flash.

Interestingly Apple also plans to bump the regular-sized, 9.7-inch iPad Pro up to 10.1-inches, by making the device 1cm longer and 0.5cm wider, the sources say.

That would be significant, given the legacy of the 9.7-inch device, which has been in play since the very first iPad in 2010.

Also on deck for a refresh this year is the original 12.9-inch iPad Pro, according to Macotakara.

The report also says all three models will retain the 3.5mm headphone jack, when they launch next spring, and will switch from dual-microphone to quad-microphone set-ups.

The last question appears to be whether the mechanical home button, axed from the iPhone 7, will depart from 2017’s iPad models too? No news on that in today’s report.
