iPad 2-Equivalent Disgo 9104 Tablet Released For £179 Sporting IPS Screen And 1.2GHz CPU, Comes With £100 Of Free Apps

The same 9.7in, 1,024 x 768, IPS screen as the iPad 2, a 1.2GHz A8 Boxchip CPU, Mali 400 GPU, 1GB of DDR3 and 16GB of storage expandable through microSD. Front and rear cameras, a fully aluminium back, and excellent connectivity including microHDMI and microUSB. Oh, and Android 4 – AKA Ice Cream Sandwich. Doesn’t sound half bad for £179, right? That’s because, going by specs at least, it isn’t.

Called the Disgo 9104, this tablet may well take the market by storm. Unlike similar cheap attempts we’ve seen being sold through various import channels, the Disgo will be available online and in-store in large, trusted UK consumer electronics chains like Dixons/Currys/PCworld and Play. In other words, you can expect the same warranty and support as on any other products from these retailers.

This incredibly affordable tablet even boasts a few advantages over the mighty Apple second-gen iPad, being lighter, offering cheap expandable storage, and allowing you to connect to displays and peripherals without the expensive adapters (if at all).

Inevitably though, there are a few downsides. The most obvious on the hardware side are that its 7,000mAh battery is only rated for five hours of heavy use, and though Wi-Fi N is present, Bluetooth is omitted. We’re also guessing the capacitive touch screen won’t have the same quality oleophobic coating.

Software, meanwhile, suffers from the absence of official Google Play (i.e. the Android market) support, but quite aside from getting around this, Disgo will be providing a separate app channel and gives you redemption codes for £100 worth of free apps to get started with – some of which are actually pretty decent.
