iOS 8 Compatibility: iPhone 6 leads the way as iPhone 4 misses out

The full range of iOS 8 compatible devices have been announced, with the new iPhone 6 set to lead the way.

While the iPhone 6 will be the first device to run iOS 8 direct from the box, Apple has confirmed that those of you still clinging on to your beloved iPhone 4 will miss out on the new software release.

Although the iPhone 4 does not poses the necessary attributes to be awarded an iOS 8 update, all devices from the iPhone 4S forward will make the jump.

With the iPhone 5, iPhone 5C and iPhone 5S all set to be handed an iOS 8 update, the 5th generation iPod touch is also in line for the HealthKit providing software.

It’s not just Apple’s smartphones which will move to iOS 8, the company’s tablet offerings are also getting in on the act.

The original iPad aside, all Apple tablets will add iOS 8. This includes both iPad mini efforts and the iPad Air.

“iOS 8 builds on iOS 7 with new features for iPhone and iPad,” Apple’s Senior Vice President of Software Engineering, Craig Federighi, said in unveiling the software back at WWDC in June.

An iOS 8 release date has been confirmed for September 17. The iPhone 6 release date will be held two days later on September 19.
