iOS 8 beta 5 pulls Maps results into Recent Calls

The latest iOS 8 beta release has started to pull Apple Maps results into your Recents tab of the Phone app.

A new feature contained within iOS 8 beta 5 has started populating your iPhone’s Recents list with Maps search results.

The albeit fairly small new feature takes iOS 8 a step further to offering synchronicity between Maps and iPhone apps.

It was discovered by an AppleInsider reader, who spotted that when users search for a business within the Maps app, that information is then transported to the Recents tab and into search results.

This means that if you call a number from the Maps app, it is pulled into your iPhone’s call log with iOS 8. Not only is the business or restaurant’s name pulled through, but you’ll be able to see the addresses and even Yelp data for that chosen locale.

That information is then available in your Maps Hybrid view, Spotlight search and Safari search, meaning you’ve constantly got all the information you require at the touch of a button.

For iOS 8 beta 5 anyway, this functionality seems limited to Maps results. Anything you’ve dialled in Safari Spotlight or with Siri isn’t automatically pulled into your Recents tab within the Phone app.

However, seeing as iOS 8 is still in beta stages, this may well change with future iterations or be enhanced with the consumer version available sometime in the autumn.

It’s a great new feature though, as it will make saving your favourite eateries or other destinations a whole lot easier.

The overall aim of iOS 8 is to increase the synchronicity between Macs and iOS devices, but also make it a lot more interactive. For example, there’s the new Handoff feature that carries content across all your devices, whether that’s web browsing, a half-written email, reminders, contacts, or Pages documents.

You’ll also be able to answer calls and text messages from your Mac and iPad, not just your iPhone.

There’s a host of new iOS 8 features coming later this year, which should become available for download when the iPhone 6 launches in September.
