iOS 6.1.1 update released by Apple to tackle iPhone 4S signal issues

Apple has issued a new iOS 6.1.1 update, with the software patch landing just hours after network provider Vodafone warned iPhone 4S users off updating to iOS 6.1 due to on-going 3G signal issues.

With the recent iOS 6.1 update reportedly causing a swathe of iPhone 4S users to experience troublesome signal loss issues when attempting to utilise 3G connections, Apple has responded to complaints, rolling out iOS 6.1.1 in a bid to amend the recently introduced issues.

Made available overnight, the new iOS 6.1.1 update appears to currently be exclusive to iPhone 4S users, with our test iPhone 4 and iPad mini units currently showing iOS 6.1 as “up to date.”

Speaking on the new iOS fix, Apple has stated: “This update fixes an issue that could impact cellular performance and reliability for iPhone 4S.”

Earlier this week Vodafone UK warned its iPhone 4S toting customers not to make the jump to the recently released iOS 6.1 update, with the software patch causing a number of handset owners to experience continuing 3G signal loss issues.

“Some customers may occasionally experience difficulty in connecting to the network to make or receive calls or texts or to connect to the internet,” the network provider announced in reference to the iPhone 4S troubling iOS 6.1 issues.

Shifting all the blame towards Apple, Vodafone, speaking via its official blog, added: “Apple is working on a solution to their software issue. These connection problems are intermittent.

“While Apple’s investigations continue, we would recommend that anyone who has not yet installed iOS 6.1 on their iPhone 4S should delay doing so until Apple has confirmed that their problem has been fixed.”

As well as seemingly introducing a connection issue to iPhone 4S users, the iOS 6.1 update, which was made available on January 28 for all iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users running iOS 6, saw a number of PassBook, Siri and iTunes Match features introduced.

An issue that appears to have affected some but not all iPhone 4S users, handset owners have given TrustedReviews mixed reports off the severity of the issue.

Whilst reader Charlie Moritz told us: “Damn I shouldn’t have update, it’s pretty choppy,” his comments were cancelled out by Grant Fraser who claimed: “I have no issues what so ever with my 4S, neither do two others I know with the same phone.”
