It’s emerged that in addition to introducing a number of much-requested new features, iOS 11.4 bundles an unwanted bug that, if it manifests itself on your iPhone, could deplete its battery reserve in a mere matter of hours.
Frustrated by the oversight, more than a thousand customers took to Apple’s Support Forums to complain that their iPhone – be it an iPhone 6, iPhone 7, iPhone 8 or iPhone X – had started discharging at a rapid rate after installing iOS 11.4.
“My iPhone 6 was working perfectly fine until I updated to iOS 11.4 and ever since I did that my battery is draining rapidly even without me using it at all,” writes one user. “I used to go a full day without charging it now it may last half a day.”
“I have the same issue with my 6S+,” explains another in response to the complaint. “It was fine before the update. And my battery health is at 90%, yet I just watched my battery % drop from 50 to 20% in a matter of minutes while not using it.”

Some customers offered up a makeshift solution to the glitch, noting that disabling Wi-Fi reduced the amount of power their handset was consuming; while many others opted to roll back to iOS 11.3.1, the last stable consumer build of iOS.
We did a little bit of digging and weren’t able to uncover a statement from Apple, so we reached out to the firm to see if it could shed some light on the situation, to which we received no response – we’ll update this post if we ever hear back.
