InterVideo Makes iPod Video Easy

It introduces a three step software programme that recodes your videos for portable devices...

With the clamour over the new video capable iPod it is worth pointing out that it is no walk in park getting your own content onto its 320 x 240 screen, but InterVideo may just have the answer.

In fact, let’s just step back a minute because we’re not just talking about the current apple of Apple’s eye, but getting video on handsets and gaming devices in general. Copying content to a memory card and forcing it to play tends to look terrible. This condensed resolution and forced aspect ratio plays havoc with picture quality and, even if you are an honest fellow who only looks to buy official pre-formatted content, the range is limited and it doesn’t help you get your own family vids transferred.

To counter this DVD software guru InterVideo (makers of the immensely popular WinDVD player) have released DVD Copy 4. This latest version puts an increased focus on customising existing video content and uses a three step process to convert DVDs, AVIs, and Mpegs to new resolutions and aspect ratios. This includes not only the new iPod’s native format, but it also supports Memory Stick video for the PSP and 3GPP/3GP2 for mobile phones.

Naturally, the software also retains its previous functionality, including the ability to backup movies and video clips, copy from virtually any source (including the Internet) and even merge dual layer content or multiple DVDs down to a single 4.7GB disc. Yet in the light of the year’s new gadgets, it will be its use as a conversion tool for portable video that is the biggest selling point.

Available immediately, DVD Copy 4 carries an RRP of £39.99 and can either be ordered in a boxed form from countless retailers or downloaded directly from the InterVideo site. For anyone you can’t leave the house without numerous electronic contraptions bulging from every possible pocket (”Is that a lump in your trousers, or are you just happy to be a geek?)” I can’t think of a better purchase.
