1.6GHz low-power processor mooted.
Currently Intel’s fastest ULV processors are the dual-core 1.4GHz SE9400, and 1.2GHz single-core SU3300 but those just aren’t quick enough, apparently. Which is why, DigiTimes reports, Intel is planning to launch two new processors for its low-voltage product line, the dual-core 1.6GHz SU9600 and single-core
Both the SU9600 and SU3500 will be compatible with the same GS45 chipset as used with current ULV CPUs. It also seems reasonable to assume that the TDP of these chips will remain at 10W and 5.5W for the dual-core and single-core processors respectively.
The SU9600 will, DigiTimes says, cost $289 in 1,000-unit trays while the SU3500 will cost $262 in the same numbers. Intel will, apparently, start shipping both late in March, so notebooks using the chips will hopefully appear come April. Buying an upgraded – and even more ludicrously expensive – Vaio TT seems like the perfect way to welcome in the new tax year to me.
