Instagram will now warn people that you’re snooping on their snaps

Just like Snapchat, Instagram now lets you send self-destructing messages to mates – we wonder where they got that idea?

As well as adding an element of fun to the photo-friendly social network, these disappearing snaps are a prime platform for sharing smutty dick pics and fanny photos because that’s just what people are like.

Be warned though you randy buggers, just because a photo might self destruct doesn’t mean it can’t stick around forever. Have you never heard of screenshots?

Fortunately, Instagram’s latest update will warn users if their temporary photos have been screen grabbed before disappearing into the ether.

instagram vs snapchat

Although there’s not a lot you can do to stop someone actually capturing a screenshot – or then sharing it with the wider world – at least you’ll be alerted to the action, in the form of a notification-based pop-up.

These notifications are only sent to Insta’s ‘disappearing messages’, so you can keep screen grabbing standard shots in your photo feed without consequence.

If you do take an innocent screenshot elsewhere, however, Instagram will understand that you’ve done so – presumably with the mindset of sharing it elsewhere – and give you the option to pass it on to friends.
