Instagram releases Boomerang, a new app for short video loops
Instagram has launched a brand new app, Boomerang, dedicated to creating short looping animations.
The app takes a series of photos in rapid succession, and then stitches them together for posterity.
It’s simple to create a video; just press the shutter button once, and a looping gif-style video is the result.
“Capture a friend jumping off a diving board, defying physics as she flies back and forth through the air,” reads the Instagram blog.
It continues: “Transform an ordinary selfie with your friends into a funny video.
You can shoot in portrait or landscape mode, and you can share your clips directly to Instagram through the app.
Boomerang also saves your animations to your device’s local camera roll.
“It was something we built just for fun for us to play with as a team,” John Barnett, Boomerang Product Manager, said, speaking to TechCrunch.
The app was built by a team of just five, all from Instagram’s Android team. It caught on, and now it’s finally been released to the public.
