Instagram adds trending tags, places and events to Explore page
Instagram has revamped its Explore page to bring users snapshots of trending topics, events and locations around the world, along with a host of new curated sections.
The Twitter-like reimagined section now features dedicated sections for trending tags and places, which Instagram says will make it easier to experience events, occasions or popular topics from the widest range of photographic perspectives.
It’s “rich visual content captures everyone’s unique take — not just what the community is talking about, but also what they’re doing and seeing,” the company says on its official blog.
All of the trends will surface in real-time, with Instagram founder Kevin Systrom telling Wired: “
The top of the new Explore feed will also feature a carousel of new human-curated sections which will enable people to discover images around themes like new people, extreme athletes, glimmering islands, ancient ruins and more.
Unfortunately, these updates will only be available in the United States initially, with Instagram working towards a wider rollout in the coming months. However, one new feature non-U.S. residents will be able to enjoy is the improved search functionality.
The company adds: “With the new Places Search, you can now peer in at just about any location on earth, allowing you to scout out your next vacation spot in the South Pacific, get a look inside that hot new restaurant or experience your favorite music festival — even if you couldn’t make it this year.”
