Imation Joins Super Talent With Micro USB Key

Battle to be tiniest intensifies.

Super Talent may think it has the tiny, waterproof USB key market all to itself with the incredible Pico Series (admittedly it’s not the biggest category in the world) but Imation wants some of that action…

With the newly launched 8GB ‘Atom Flash Drive’ Imation has dived into direct competition with the remarkable Pico C and at just 32 x 12 x 4.8mm it is definitely a match for its 31.3 x 12.4 x 3.4mm rival. In fact, though the Pico C is 50 per cent lighter at 6g, I doubt anyone but Thumbelina will find the extra 3g a deal breaker.

So with teeniness ticked the Atom goes for the kill with integrated password protection and drive partitioning capabilities and while exact data speeds aren’t disclosed, it is Vista ReadyBoost compatible meaning it should be no slouch.

Throw in a five year limited warranty, driverless Windows, Mac and Linux support and an RRP expected to be around the same £20 mark and it looks like we’re in too close to call territory. Happily, Imation has promised to send us the 8GB Atom so we should be able to get you a verdict after a bit of testing.

We’re expecting it to arrive at any minute on a gust of wind…
