Ikea gets into the audio game with ENEBY Bluetooth speakers

Swedish furniture company Ikea has announced its first pair of Bluetooth speakers. The ENEBY speakers are available in three colours and are priced at £45 for the smaller model, or £80 for the large version. 

When you think of Ikea your mind probably first goes to bookcases, desks and meatballs, but the Swedish manufacturer has become increasingly technical over the past several years.

As well as furniture with wireless charging built in, the company has also produced solar panels, and its own range of Ikea Smart LED light bulbs.

So the fact that it’s now producing Bluetooth speakers, which are on their way to becoming the best and easiest way to listen to music around the home, isn’t too surprising.

The ENEBY speakers will be available in white, grey and black, and can be wall- or stand-mounted. Ikea also helpfully points out that you could simply place them on one of their storage units, which we probably could have worked out ourselves but whatever.

In addition to this functionality, the smaller of the two speakers can be fitted with an optional battery  pack (£15) to turn it into a portable speaker. Otherwise both ENEBY speakers are completely mains-powered.

Whether these two speakers will actually sound any good or not is another story entirely. Ikea is well known for making no-nonsense furniture that’s designed to get the job done when you need something affordable.

These two Bluetooth speakers aren’t the cheapest we’ve seen, which has us hoping that they won’t be made using the lowest-quality parts available, but we’ll definitely be reserving judgement until we’ve heard them for ourselves.
