IFA 2008: New Philips Players Bring Wireless Audio to Your Hi-Fi

NP1100, NP2500 & NP2900 all join the Streamium networked audio range.

Just in case you were missing all the Philips news, there are still a few more items to come including a whole selection of smaller networked media streamers. There are three in all, the NP1100, the NP2500 and the NP2900 with the first two meant to provide wireless networking for a normal Hi-Fi, connecting via coaxial output, while the latter adds integrated speakers. All can connect to your network wirelessly and give you access to Internet radio services.

The runt of the litter is the NP1100 (above). With MP3 and WMA support it features a monochrome screen that dominates the greater part of the front and a surprisingly comprehensive remote, giving you control of all its functions and allowing you to navigate your music using its 4-way control pad.

Like the NP1100, the NP2500 (above) doesn’t have any speakers but it does add a larger colour screen and Philips’ FullSound technology to “enhance” your streamed music.

Finally, the NP2900 (above), takes the NP2500 ingredients and adds speakers as well, making it a quick and easy way to get streaming audio to studies, bedrooms and kitchens. One can’t help but wonder, though, if it might be blown out of the water by Logitech’s Squeezebox Boom…
