Hyperkin’s Smart Boy is real – it turns your phone into a Game Boy
E3 2016 has seen a slew of major announcements and first-looks, but this might be one of our favourite discoveries to come out of the games expo.
It appears the guys at Neowin stumbled across a working version of Hyperkin’s Smart Boy – a gadget that turns your phone into a fully functioning Game Boy.
Hyperkin originally teased the device as an April Fool’s joke last year, but the Smart Boy received such a positive response that the company began development.
Now, the a working model has been spotted on the E3 show floor, complete with a cartridge slot that allows you to fire up your version of Pokémon Blue and play it on your phone’s screen.

The gadget appears to have undergone a slight design change since the original announcement, and comes with the same button layout and colour scheme as Nintendo’s original handheld console.
Initially, the Smart Boy was announced as compatible with both iPhones and Android devices, but according to Neowin’s report, it will be arriving with Android compatibility only.
Still, there’s no telling what will come in the future, and there are sure to be more details available soon, with Neowin reporting a December 2016 release for the Smart Boy.
