Huawei working on curved display smartphone, says report

The IFA Berlin technology trade show is nearly upon us, and we’re expecting a number of new phones to mark the occasion.
Fortunately, a new report gives us a clue as to what we can expect from at least one big manufacturer.
Rumours suggest that manufacturer Huawei will be showing off a smartphone featuring a curved screen at IFA in early September.
The report, which comes courtesy of GizChina, includes a purported press render of the device sent from an anonymous “tipster”.
The render in question
Huawei has never mentioned a curved-screened smartphone through any official channels, so this is a bit of a curveball.
The technology isn’t impossible, mind. We’ve already seen flexed panels on the LG G Flex 2 and its predecessor.
A second image was also provided by the tipster, which seems to be of the display component for the device, separated from the actual handset.
There’s no obvious curve in the image, although a subtle bend might not be apparent just looking at the panel alone.

So what phone is this? It’s unlikely to be the rumoured Mate 7 Plus, since the placement of the SD card slot in this render doesn’t match earlier leaks we’ve seen.
As such, this might be an entirely new range. Or, it could be that this is a new phone from Honor, Huawei’s spin-off brand.
Considering we can’t actually verify this image or its source, there’s a chance it could be completely spurious.
