Huawei Ascend W1 Windows Phone 8 handset photos and specs leaked

Huawei is reportedly planning to release a Windows Phone 8 mobile, called simply the Ascend W1. The official launch is believed to be happening before the end of the year but this week a Japanese website, Blog of Mobile, leaked a couple of purported product shots and specs.

The Chinese manufacturer follows the likes of Samsung, Nokia and HTC by joining the Windows 8 Phone platform. However, it appears to be aiming for a lower end of the market compared to some of its rivals. Its rumoured price tag is only $310 (sub-£200). The handset is expected to go on sale in China to begin with.

Information is minimal at the moment, but its features are said to include a 4-inch WVGA display (800 x 480 pixels), 5 megapixel rear camera, VGA front-facing camera, 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 512MB of RAM, 4GB of internal memory and a 2,000 mAh battery.

Windows Phone 8 will reportedly be officially launched just a few days after Windows 8, its PC-based cousin. The launch date for Windows 8 is set at 26 October, so there’s not too long to wait until the next-generation of Windows mobiles will get given the official nod from Microsoft.
