Huawei is serious about the future of its high-end, feature-packed Mate range, so much so that it’s trademarked the next eight iterations – ranging from the Mate 20 right up to the Mate 90.
Information surrounding the Huawei Mate 20, which is rumoured to be the next handset in the Mate line, is sparse. All we know is that Huawei has commissioned Samsung Display to manufacture a massive 6.9-inch flat AMOLED touchscreen for use on a device that’s set to be released sometime in Q4 of 2018 or Q1 of 2019.
- Q4 of 2018 – October, November and December
- Q1 of 2019 – January, February and March
The news came from The Bell, who drew the connection between the customer and the delivery date, noting that Huawei tends to launch the next iteration in its Mate range in Q4 of 2018. Postponing the release until Q1 of 2019, however, could put it in a better position to compete with the much-anticipated Samsung Galaxy S10.

If there’s any doubt about what Huawei is planning to use its new monikers for, it goes as far as to confirm they’re for new smartphones in the documentation it submitted to European Union Intellectual Property Office, noting: “Smartphones, mobile phones and apparatus,” among several other mobile-based use cases.
