Huawei CEO brands Tizen OS a no hoper

Samsung’s Tizen OS has ‘no chance’ of being a success according to Huawei CEO Richard Yu.

The head of the Chinese phone manufacturer, previously a supporter of the Samsung backed OS, has suggested that app and support restrictions mean Tizen will never be able to compete with the likes of Android and iOS.

Speaking with the Wall Street Journal, Yu stated that Tizen has “no chance to be successful” and that Huawei has “no plans to use Tizen”.

Despite turning its back on the fledgling OS, he revealed that he is not comfortable only creating Android-based handsets.

We have worries about Android being the only option, but we have no choice,” Yu stated, adding: “We have a good collaboration with Google.”

Although the manufacturer has dabbled in Windows Phone devices in the past, Yu revealed a lack of consumer interest is rendering these efforts redundant.

“Even for Windows Phone it’s difficult to be successful,” Yu said.

He added: “It has been difficult to persuade customers to buy a Windows Phone.”

Speaking with TrustedReviews earlier this year, Huawei’s Chief Marketing Officer, Shao Yang claimed that the company is still committed to Windows Phone despite losing money on the OS.

“We are still committed to making Windows Phone devices,” he told us. “Compared with Android, the priority of Windows Phone is much lower but it is still one of our choices of OS.

“We are definitely using a multi OS strategy.”
