Huawei Ascend Mate 7 announced as ‘world’s fastest phone’

Huawei has a new premium phablet on the way, with the 6-inch Huawei Ascend Mate 7 being tipped as the ‘world’s fastest phone’.

With Huawei fond of handing the odd world’s this or that mantle to many of its products, the Chinese manufacturer has unveiled the Mate 7 during its IFA 2014 press conference.

This ‘world’s fastest’ claim is not down to the phone’s processing abilities though, instead Huawei is on about the phone’s Cat 6 LTE connectivity options.

Despite adopting a selection of high-end components and a sleek, brushed metal finish, the Huawei Ascend Mate 7 shouldn’t have the newly unveiled Samsung Galaxy Note 4 too worried.

Huawei Ascend Mate 7 Features

While the Mate 7’s Cat 6 LTE support makes good headlines, it isn’t that useful to UK consumers. Not yet anyway. The connectivity option, which offers download speeds of up to 300mbps and would allow you to download the latest Hobbit flick in just 2.2 minutes, is not currently supported by UK networks.

Certain territories do offer these speeds however, and UK will join the race, at least in some capacity soon.

Right, to the specs sheet.

The Huawei Ascend Mate 7 runs a huge 6-inch display with a 1920 x 1080p Full HD resolution. That’s an image density of 368 pixels-per-inch.

While some devices, such as the LG G3, are now moving to a QHD panel, the Mate 7 has stuck at Full HD and we expect the phone’s price to show this.

At just 7.9mm thick, the phone looks great.

The Mate 7’s aesthetically pleasing brushed metal finish is broken up on the rear by an integrated fingerprint scanner. The 360-degree biometric security measure can read your fingerprint from any angle. Due to its positioning, it gives the device a distinctly HTC One Max look.

On the power front, a 1.8GHz octo-core Kirin 825 processor runs the show alongside LPDDR3 memory. A 4100mAh battery – with an ultra power saving mode – keep things ticking along.

Cameras echo those found on the Huawei Ascend P7 with a 13-megapixel primary snapper backed up by a secondary, 5-megapixel camera up front.

Huawei Ascend Mate 7 Release Date and Price
The Huawei Ascend Mate 7 will begin its global rollout later this year. We don’t expect UK to be its first port of call, but don’t expect to wait too long for the device.

Finalised Huawei Ascend Mate 7 pricing is still to be announced.
