Huawei Ascend G350 confirmed as IP68 certified waterproof phone
Chinese handset manufacturer Huawei has launched a new rugged handset, with the IP68 certified Huawei Ascend G350 announced at MWC 2013.
The latest rugged handset to enter the realms of reality, the Huawei Ascend G350 follows the likes of the Samsung Galaxy Xcover and even the Sony Xperia Z in being able to service being submerged under water.
Whilst the IP68 certification of the Huawei Ascend G350 is undoubtedly the handset’s party piece, Huawei Product Director James Powell has suggested the device features all the usual innards expected of a mid-range Android handset, and has been “designed to look like a normal phone.”
Huawei Ascend G350 Features
With the handset’s IP68 certification meaning the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean powered handset can stand up to meetings with dust, dirt and water, as well as the occasional fall or drop, the Huawei Ascend G350 specs sheet is further enhanced by more traditional smartphone fare.
Powered by a 1GHz dual-core processor, the Huawei Ascend G350 is by no means the most powerful handset on the market, but nor is it overshadowed by the competition, with the dual-core CPU backed up by the usual selection of Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GSM connectivity options.
Whilst heavily protected from accidental damage, the sleek design of the rugged device sees the Huawei Ascend G350 line up at just 11.98mm thick. A proximity sensor, light sensor and G-sensor all feature within the tough device.
Playing host to a 5-megapixel rear-mounted camera with integrated video recording capabilities, the G350, which is capable of receiving calls whilst under water, is further enhanced by the inclusion of a second, 0.3-megapixel snapper up front. A 1730mAh battery gives the Huawei Ascend G350 its staying power, ensuring the dreaded one day power hump is a thing of the past.
Huawei Ascend G350 Release Date and Price
Whilst the handset has been showcased on the brand’s stand at MWC 2013, a formal Huawei Ascend G350 UK release date has yet to be confirmed with company representatives revealing that the device will touch down during “the first half of the year.”
A Huawei Ascend G350 price tag has yet to be revealed, with the device expected to follow the manufacturer’s competitive pricing strategies.
