HTC Windows Phone 8 mobiles teased in September event invite

HTC is close to unveiling its first Windows Phone 8 phones, hot on the heels of Nokia’s unveiling of the Lumia 920 and Lumia 820 last night. It has already issued an invite for an event on 19 September, when its first Windows Phone 8 devices are expected to see the light of day.

The 19 September launch event will take place in New York, and the invite teases the upcoming announcement with the tagline “see what’s next”, alongside a rather odd-looking arrangement of circles. But what do they mean?

It’s anyone’s guess, but as details of three HTC Windows Phone 8 mobiles have already been leaked, there are unlikely to be any world-flattening surprises. The top-of-the-range model bears the Zenith codename, and features a quad-core processor, 8-megapixel camera and a 4.7in 720p display.   Windows Phone 8
Here’s what Windows Phone 8 looks like…

If you can’t quite afford a big daddy phone, the Accord takes a few steps down, with a 4.3in 720p screen, dual-core processor and 8-megapixel camera. The HTC Rio is the baby of the bunch, with a 4in, lower-resolution 480 x 800 pixel screen and a 5-megapixel camera. All these names are likely to change before the phones are officially revealed.

These phones will join the Nokia Lumia 920 and Lumia 820 and the Samsung ATIV S as the highest-profile first-wave Windows Phone 8 devices. They are all expected to be released later on in the year.
HTC Titan
This isn’t the first time HTC has dipped its toes into Windows Phone waters – its HTC Radar, HTC HD7, HTC Mozart and HTC Titan all ran the previous Windows Phone 7 OS. However, these previous-gen phones will not get the bump-up to Windows Phone 8. If you want to get a taste of Microsoft’s latest wares, you’ll have to fork out for a brand new phone.
