HTC to partner with Google on new Nexus tablet?

Despite the company’s past tablet failings, latest reports have suggested HTC has been chosen as the manufacturing partner for Google’s next Nexus-branded tablet offering.

Although the Google Nexus 7 remains one of the most popular Android tablets on the market, it has been suggested that Google could part ways with current manufacturing partner Asus in favour of a new deal with the HTC One maker.

While neither Google nor HTC have yet confirmed the plans, reports out of the manufacturer’s native Taiwan have claimed that work has already started on the HTC made Nexus tablet which will be launched later this year.

It is currently unknown what size display the new Nexus offering will boast, although the reported Q3 release would favour a Nexus 7 refresh, with a new 10-inch Google tablet having been mooted for an early summer unveiling.

HTC’s past tablet offering, the HTC Flyer, failed to grab much consumer attention following its launch back in 2011, with the Taiwanese manufacturer having since conceded tablet market defeat to the likes of Apple and Samsung.

It is believed that HTC was one of a number of manufacturers to pitch for the rights to make Google’s next Nexus tablet.

If accurate, it is feasible that the HTC made Nexus tablet could boast a new, premium aluminium design, similar to that of the HTC One, that would enable Google’s tablet offerings to better compete with the high-end likes of the iPad Air and iPad mini 2.
