HTC teases mysterious “secret weapon”, possible VR headset

HTC has teased a “secret weapon” in a series of photographs, which might just be another VR headset.

Idris Mootee, Chief Marketing Officer at HTC, posted three new pictures to his personal Facebook page earlier today.

The images were accompanied by the phrase “secret weapon coming soon”, but no other details.

The first of the three pictures is clearly of some kind of VR headset, as it even has HTC VR Haptic Touch written across the front.

That’s backed up by the fact the second image shows the back side of the VR headset, including some integrated headphones and dials that we assume adjust the lenses for optimum optical performance.

But then there’s the third image, which looks a bit like a futuristic robotic face. We assume the three images are all related somehow, but for now it’s all a bit of a mystery.

HTC SecretHTC Secret

HTC announced its first venture into virtual reality technology during MWC 2015 back in March with the HTC Vive.

The Vive is powered by Valve’s SteamVR system, and is already proving to be the best virtual reality headset currently available – sorry Oculus Rift and Project Morpheus.

For all we know this might be a potential consumer version of the HTC Vive that the Taiwanese company is toying with.

We don’t know anything about when we’ll hear more about this “secret weapon” HTC has up its sleeves.

All Mootee is giving us is a vague “coming soon” after all.
