HTC’s much anticipated smartwatch debut may have hit a bit of a launch snag, but could be here in a month.
We’ve been expecting an HTC smartwatch for years now. As far back as 2014, HTC confirmed the rumours that it was working on its own wearable. Still, we’ve seen no sign of such a device.
Back in January, the latest tip-off suggested that an April launch was likely. April came an went, but it brought only the HTC 10 flagship phone.
Now HTC tipster Evan Blass has provided an update on the company’s wearable plans:

So its seems as if the HTC smartwatch is still coming, but that it’s another month away.
Predicting what the HTC smartwatch will look or perform like appears to be a fool’s game. If reports are to be believed, HTC has gone back to the drawing board on its smartwatch debut several times.
However, we wouldn’t be at all surprised if the new smartwatch ran on Qualcomm’s first dedicated wearable processor, the Snapdragon Wear 2100, which was announced earlier in the year.
The chip’s smartwatch-specific design promises to make for slimmer devices with better battery life – two key criticisms of most Android Wear watches to date. It also allows for 4G network support, so HTC’s smartwatch could well operate separately from your smartphone.

One feature we’d bank on with the HTC smartwatch is its operating system. Google announced HTC as a partner way back at the initial launch of its Android Wear smartwatch OS, and we have little reason to think that might have changed.
Especially not with the rumour that HTC has been chosen to provide the next Nexus smartphones later in the year.
