HTC set to launch a GoPro Hero rival at October 8 event

HTC looks certain to enter the action camera market with a new device, possibly called the RE Camera, set to be unveiled at the forthcoming October 8 event in New York City.

The company released a teaser trailer on Tuesday night, complete with the tagline “Something Remarkable is Coming.”

Within that YouTube clip (see below), folks are filmed swimming underwater, playing football in slow motion, playing music, dancing and riding a bike, while a time-lapse videos of a cityscape is also previewed.

All of which suggests a rival for the all-conquering GoPro Hero series of action cams will make its debut at the event next month.

That’s further evidenced by the newly-live recamera.com website, which features the video, the 8/10/14 reveal day and the chance for interested parties to sign up for availability updates.

Speculation in the last week or so had pegged the HTC-made Nexus 9 tablet for launch at the event.

That may still be the case, but the launch of an action cam makes far more sense giving the ‘Double Exposure’ tagline featured within the original media invite.

We’ll be covering the HTC event on October 8 so stay tuned for what looks like it’ll be HTC’s first efforts to diversify away from smartphones in a good long while.

Check out the teaser in the video below.
