Qwerty HTC ‘Touch HD Pro’ In Development

So say industry leaks, and HTC doesn't have the tightest of product security...

Could HTC be about to do something very logical, yet somehow rather butcherous to the stunning Touch HD?

According to Slash Gear, the Taiwanese giant has yet another secret plan up its sleeve which has now been splashed all over the Interweb: a sliding Qwerty version of Touch HD (pictured, left) called the ‘Touch HD Pro’.

Aside from the keyboard the two handsets would be identical spec-for-spec much like the Touch Diamond and Touch Pro (pictured, right) and result in a similar, more unified (if sex-worker analogous) product branding. That would mean any Touch HD Pro would spot a stunning 3.8in WVGA (480 x 800 pixel) touch and widescreen display, five megapixel camera, WiFi, aGPS, 528MHz Qualcomm 7201A processor, Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR, a microSD/SDHC expansion slot, large 1350mAH battery and 3.5mm headset jack.

Where HTC would have to be careful however is size and weight. The slim and light Touch Diamond (102 x 51 x 11.5mm and 110g) bulked up horribly when the keyboard was added to a rather monstrous 103 x 52 x 18mm and 158g. Now given the Touch HD is already 115 x 62.8 x 12mm and – more importantly – 146.4g, such a move could create a near 200g monster.

Personally I think with a screen that size there is no excuse for not getting a landscape virtual keyboard absolutely spot on, but people continue to love their buttons. On the other side, it will be a relatively simple product expansion for HTC and please many, so why not?

Though currently unconfirmed, expect to own up to this fat slice of logic pretty sharpish…
